Types of concrete floors we can treat
New concrete flooring (untreated)
Whether you’re building your dream home or rejuvenating tired flooring in a commercial space, we can apply the Grind and Seal method to brand new and untreated concrete floors.
Existing concrete flooring (untreated)
Breathe new life back into tired, old, faded, or chipped concrete flooring in your home or commercial building.
Existing concrete flooring (already treated)
If your existing concrete floor has been treated in the past, we can generally still apply the Grind and Seal method. It may simply require an additional step to firstly remove the existing coating before we proceed with the standard process.
Grind and Seal concrete floor process
Revive plain concrete with this cost-effective solution
Our professional flooring experts have a simple yet effective four-step process that ensures flawless application of your coatings and results in a durable and beautiful concrete floor.
-
Step 1: Preparation
The first and arguably most important step is to prepare the floor - this is the ‘Grind’ part of ‘Grind and Seal’!
Using high-quality tools and machinery, we grind your concrete floor to remove the top coating of concrete. This will therefore expose some of the concrete stones depending on the hardness of your concrete.
Please note that stone exposure is not always possible on all floors - ask us for more information.
-
Step 2: Basecoat
After a vacuum to remove dust and particles, we are ready to apply the first layer - Polyaspartic basecoat or water-based Urethane.
-
Step 3: Anti-slip
Following the basecoat, we apply an optional anti-slip coat. We highly recommend this step, particularly for areas that experience medium to high foot traffic.
-
Step 4: Topcoat
Finally, the topcoat provides the final sealant to protect the floor and provide a high-quality finish. London Linings’ Epoxy flooring experts offer both matte and glossy finishes, depending on your preference.
What is the difference between 'Grind and Seal' and Epoxy application?
Grind and Seal is an alternative flooring solution to Epoxy flake flooring that is used to protect concrete floors with a UV basecoat and topcoat.
Grind and Seal is a solution suitable for walking areas in the home as well as commercial flooring settings such as bars, cafes, restaurants, and offices.
What is the difference between 'Grind and Seal' and polished concrete?
Grind and Seal provides a more rustic finish compared to mechanically polished concrete and is much more cost-effective.
The stone exposure is only partial, which means you may not see all the stone, unlike polished concrete. Grind marks may also be visible as the concrete is grinded down and not buffed like the polishing process.
